Accounting and tax help for NRIs

A practising Indian CA, for the filings that a spreadsheet and an internet forum cannot settle.

We introduce you to professionals we have checked. Nobody pays to be listed, and our articles never recommend one by name.

What we arrange

  • Filing an Indian return as a non-resident, including the year you move
  • TDS on a property sale, which is where most NRI sellers meet an unexpected number, and the lower-deduction certificate that sometimes fixes it
  • Repatriation paperwork — the certificates a bank asks for before money leaves India
  • Rental income from Indian property, declared in both countries without paying twice
  • Residency questions, which turn on day counts and are less obvious than they look

What we will not do

Answer a specific tax question in an article or an email. Every page in /nri/tax-money explains how a rule works and stops short of telling anyone what to do, because the line between the two is the line between publishing and giving unlicensed advice.

Who you get

A practising chartered accountant in India, with a membership number you can verify with the ICAI, who works with non-resident clients regularly. They quote you directly for the work.

What it costs

Their fee, quoted before the work starts. We take a flat referral fee from them, disclosed here, which does not change what you pay and is the same whoever you are introduced to.

Questions people ask

Can you tell me whether I am a resident for tax purposes this year?

No, and be wary of anyone who answers that from a web page. Residency turns on day counts, on which financial year you are asking about, and on rules that have changed more than once in recent years. It is a question for a CA who can see your dates.

Why is there a review date on this page?

Because India's budget moves the rules every February. Anything on this site about money states the financial year it reflects and is re-checked annually — and comes down rather than sitting there wrong.
